Traditionally made from 22ct gold the coin has the monarch’s head on one side and the iconic image of Saint George slaying the Dragon on the reverse. The face value of a Half Sovereign is half that of a full Sovereign, a value equal to half a pound sterling (50p), however the last year when the half gold coin was issued for normal circulation was in 1926 and its present value is now many times more than its face value.
