Wright-Austin TF Gas Liquid Separators Coalescing separators for fine mist removal Fine mist separators differ from centrifugal separators because they have a secondary stage to remove finer droplets. Wright-Austin type TF coalescing gas-liquid separators employ a two stage liquid and solid entrainment particle removal design, capable of removing 99.7% of entrained droplets and particles > 0.30 microns in size. The moisture and particle laden gas enters the separator body and is immediately deflected into a downward, centrifugal pattern whereby droplets and particles larger than 10 microns are separated from the gas via a reduction in their velocity and their momentum, crashing against the inner circumference of the vessel and coalescing into larger droplets. The separated droplets and particles become trapped within a reservoir due to the vortex containment plate (VCP) which prevents re-entrainment into the gas flow. This exclusive design does not use expensive or delicate internal baffles that other designs must employ for equivalent efficiency. The clean, dry flow is directed to the secondary (upper) stage, passing through precision filter cartridges designed to retain droplets and particles > 0.30 microns; the particle retention is dependent upon the filter cartridges used. The filter elements are made of epoxy saturated borosilicate microglass fibers having a glass-matrix drain layer and are available in several retention sizes. Fine mist separators may require periodic maintenance to replace the filter cartridges and thus they have a hinged cover for access to the filter cartridges. The Wright-Austin 31-LSF style has a horizontally oriented body and is used when the inlet and outlet nozzles are tangential to each other. The decision to use the type 31-LSF or type TF is often driven by the space available and orientation of the piping. The filter elements for both designs are the same Standard ports are provided for vents, gauges and drains, although additional connections can be provided. Fine mist separators with borosilicate microglass filter cartridges are available for pipelines as large as 16″ and made of carbon steel, stainless steel and other alloys as required. As with all of our gas/liquid separators, they are constructed to ASME code for unfired vessels, Section VIII, Division 1. An ASME U stamp and CRN registration is available.
